Make Your Own Tasty Celiac Bagels

By Mary Edwards

Gluten free treats can be as tasty as any other. For example, you could make really tasty bagels. These popular treats are simple and easy to prepare. You will need only a few basic ingredients, dry yeast, sugar, gluten-free flour, salt, oil and water. Of course, this basic recipe can be tailored to your taste, especially when it comes to decorating and spicing your treats.

Start with warming up two cups of water. Add two tablespoons sugar and the same quantity of dry yeast, together with two cups of gluten free flour. Mix well and leave this mixture on warm place for a few minutes. In the meantime, combine three cups flour, gluten free, of course, with two teaspoons salt, and add it to your mixture. Now you have a dough for preparing your tasty celiac bagels.

You might need some more flour to form a dough. If so, simply add some. Cover the dough and wait for some time to let it rise. Divide it in twelve parts and form a cylinder of each part. Use these cylinders to form dough rings. Leave them to rise a little. You may cover them with something to speed up the process.

Boil the water with a little bit of oil. Simmer your dough rings in water for about forty seconds each. Place your cooked dough rings on a cloth or on paper towels to dry. Grease the baking sheet and preheat the oven. Place dough rings on baking sheet and bake for maybe fifteen to twenty minutes, until golden crust is formed on the top.

You might think this recipe is a little bit strange, because you don't add salt right away. Well, the reason for this is really simple. While sugar activates yeast, salt will slow the things down. If you try it this way, you will find out that your dough will rise faster. It works for any type of raised dough, including pizza dough and similar.

Before baking, you can coat the rings with whipped egg whites, and sprinkle them with sesame, seeds, or sugar, to make them more interesting and even tastier. Once done, they can be served with tasty spreads, marmalade, peanut butter or anything else you can think of. Interesting and tasty spreads are easy to prepare as well.

For example, you can easily make one simple cream cheese spread. Combine your favorite cream cheese with a little bit of salt, garlic and chili powder, to make salty, spicy and delicious snacks. If you prefer sweet snacks, combine cream cheese with whipped cream and fresh fruits, or simply add dried cranberries in it, this is always a good combination.

In any case, with peanut butter and marmalade you simply cannot make a mistake. On the other hand, these tasty little bagels are just delicious as they are, without anything. But, making them even tastier is always a good idea. So, give your imagination a chance and combine different spreads, chocolate, fruits and spices, enjoy your life and enjoy in these lovely treats.
