Jamaican Black Cake For Sale For The Festive Season

By Catherine Kelly

Christmas is just next month and everywhere you turn you will find festive foods for sale. Every year you will need to make some decisions on what you will buy. In England rum pudding and cake are traditional and always will be. For a hearty dessert that will bring warmth to you this Christmas choose Jamaican black cake for sale locally in bakeries.

If you visit your local supermarket in search of a Christmas cake, you will find that the majority of the ones on sale are fruit cakes. But when you check out the ingredients some will contain rum and others won't. For a dessert that is rich and has that really classical Christmas flavour, purchase one that uses the dark liquor generously in the ingredients.

So, now we have that sorted, there are still some choice to make. There is more than one Jamaica style dessert you could choose for the big day. One is a pudding that you serve with a white rum sauce and hot. The other is the traditional cold baked dessert. After eating Christmas dinner a hot dessert and a baked pudding set on fire with rum is traditional. Don't worry about your kids eating it though. The alcohol content evaporates as soon as you set it on fire.

So, on Christmas day food, and lots of it is the general theme. As soon as the gifts are unwrapped, people will start eating and won't stop all day. A traditional lunch with stuffing and turkey followed by rum delight is par for the course. With all the trimmings and rich white sauce, you will be full to the brim after lunch.

So after your lunch has settled it will be time to return to the table again. This time the centrepiece will be a Christmas log, preferably a black Jamaican iced one. You will indulge in cold turkey and stuffing and other baked treats such as sausage rolls. So, when will you possibly have the room to eat the baked delicacy that is in the centre of the table. Many times no one will even touch it on Christmas day.

This is one reason you should choose a rum and fruit dessert. The fruit is rich in fiber and a lot more healthy than other alternatives. The way the dessert is made ensures that it won't go dry or go off. In fact, if you put it in a tin it will last for months. It is not unheard of to keep such a dessert for the entire year, many people saying it tastes better the more time it is allowed to mature.

So, this is why you should not settle for a cheap supermarket dessert that may go off and certainly is not as tasty as one you buy in a bakery. You could even try baking one yourself, but really buying one that has been hand-baked is the best choice.

Royal icing is the perfect way to decorate your dessert, with a layer of marzipan in the middle. If you aren't any good at making icing, you can by ready to roll. This means that even someone who is no good at baking and is a disaster in the kitchen can still have a great looking Christmas log.
