Feel The Heat With Ghost Pepper Wing Sauce

By Rena Hudson

One way to add a kick of flavor, some color and texture to any dish is to serve it with a sauce. There are many kinds of sauces that can be served with different kinds of dishes. There are for instance those that are meant for chicken dishes. One sauce that has become a favorite of many is ghost pepper wing sauce.

There is a basic version of this sauce but over time, people have adapted it to their taste by varying the ingredients. Those who love it like it for the hot taste it gives wings. Chicken wings are a popular starter and accompaniment with drinks at bars. It is also a popular snack at games.

The basic recipe is quite easy to follow. It requires two ghost peppers, eight chili peppers, a teaspoon of ground black pepper, two cups of vinegar and two teaspoons of salt. Start by washing the peppers and drying them with a paper towel. It is advisable to wear gloves to handle the peppers because they are hot enough to cause you to feel the heat on the hands. Also, should you touch your eyes after handling the peppers, they will burn.

Trim the stems off the peppers and remove and discard the seeds and membrane. Chop up what is left and put the slices into a pepper. Put in the salt, cups of vinegar and ground black pepper. Blend on medium speed until you get a mixture that is smooth and well mixed.

The basic recipe can be varied in different ways. One way to vary it is to add pineapple which adds a tangy sweetness. Additional spices like cinnamon are also used. Another variation is the Danny Cash Fallen Angel, heartbreaking dawns 1841, mad dog 357 ghost pepper wing sauces to name just a few variations.

For those who cannot stand the full heat of ghost peppers, there is the option of making it a bit sweet. The sweet variety has a little sugar, honey, butter, vegetable oil or olive oil and ketchup. This takes the edge off the hotness of the peppers and so that the sauce is a bit sweet. Another way you can add a bit of sweetness is by adding in some fruit pulp. Some people prefer peaches while others add apples whose flavor goes well with that of vinegar. Ripe mango also works well.

You may prefer a smooth sauce that does not have bits of pepper in it. If so, you only need to strain it. Use up what you need which is best served hot then let the sauce cool and save the rest in a glass jar. Keeping the jar lidded will help to preserve it for longer. Keep it in the refrigerator and it will keep for two weeks without going bad.

Aside from serving ghost pepper wing sauce with wings, ribs, burgers and other types of meat aside from chicken can also be served with it. A bit of it in stews gives it a kick of flavor. The sauce can be served separately. People can use as much of it as they can stand. Pouring it hot over wings is another way to serve it.
