Delicious Traditional Australian Food Recipes

Australians are known for certain foods which really stand out. Much of these have become a tradition and they really stand out. Everyone around the world will tend to know more about certain things more than others. However, a lot of people are also surprised to find various foods which pop up on the menu as well. These are things that one will discover more about when looking into traditional Australian food recipes.

Anyone traveling to Australia, can't miss out on the magic meat pies. These stand out from anything else on the menu. If you are surprised to find anything else here, you definitely won't be amazed to find the traditional meat pie here. Australians have been making these for generations. They have traditional recipes as well as more modern recipes to go by.

The lamington is not something that many Australians can refuse. After all, it is the national cake of the country. It is a basic sponge cake, but topped with chocolate icing and coconut. You won't pass a cafe without seeing one of these. Most people will have a cup of tea or coffee with their lamington. There are also other subtle variations that you will discover.

The Emu is one of Australian's famous animals. This is served in a number of different ways. It is healthy because there is little fat attached to the meat. One can eat this hot or cold, so it can be used as part of a pizza topping or it can be served as a mezze platter. Some people will include it in their meat pie along with other ingredients that blend in well.

Another alternative to a favourite breakfast which an Australian may consider is Vegemite on toast. This can also be something that one will have as a snack at just about any time of the day. It is usually something that the average tourist will turn their nose up at this, it is a firm favourite.

The prawn cocktail, which was so famous back in the 1970's, was actually created by the Australians. Few people realize this. These are basically prawns which have been shelled in a glass with a mayonnaise and tomato dressing. This took off by storm. Parts of Australia are very sophisticated. Sydney is probably well known for this and one can wine and dine here until the early hours of the morning.

Another example of a tasty treat are lamington which is now the national cake, eaten by everyone in restaurants, cafes and bistros. The vanilla ice is another cake which is more of a delicate slice. Some people will claim that this is a French invention. However, although the pastry is from France originally, Australians say that they are responsible for the vanilla filling inside this delicious pastry.

You can't escape from the kangaroo. Of course, some people who are travelling this way will refuse to eat the national animal which is so free and adorable. However, Australians say that many kangaroos overpopulate the area. This is best prepared grilled. People say that the meat should be cooked rare to medium, and served with a sauce, such as orange, juniper or plum.
