Organic Dog Treat Recipes For Your Pet

By Edna Booker

You don't have to pay high prices for dog snacks. There are tons of organic dog treat recipes that are quick, easy, and inexpensive to make. Just make sure you're up on all of the foods that canines shouldn't eat. When you're in doubt, be sure to check. Also since you want healthy options with no pesticides or additives that aren't needed, always choose organic option. Luckily, stores now stock lots of this type of food more than they ever have before.

Grains are not the best thing for a pup. Since you will need some for most recipes, use whole wheat. You put some in a bowl along with an egg, a small amount of applesauce, and about 1/2 cup of peanut butter. Stir everything until it's incorporated. Now make some cookies, drop them onto your cookie sheet, bake them for 15 minutes and they'll be ready to enjoy. If you want to turn them into no-bakes, don't add the egg to the mixture.

If you're not in the mood to do a lot of shopping, mixing, and measuring, a super easy treat for your four legged friend uses baby food and chicken. Use a few jars of food, beef and veggies are perfect. Pour them in a bowl, add some cooked chicken and drop them or roll them into snack sized treats. This is a perfect use for leftover chicken. Make sure your baby food is organic.

Holiday cookies baked in fun shapes are a hit with humans. You can make your pooch happy as well by using a cutter in the shape of a bone, or maybe even a cat. Roll out some pooch cookie dough made up of oats, peanut butter, and an egg, cut out shapes and bake them. These also make nice gifts for doggy friends.

Boil chicken and save the broth for treats. Cut up some cooked chicken, and add some broth and a small amount of flour to the bowl. Mix everything together and roll it into balls. These will last for a couple of days and can be given as treats, or added to the animal's regular food.

You can also use this same chicken and broth to create another type of treat. Add cinnamon along with the ingredients from above. Use spoons to drop the dough onto baking sheets. Bake your cookies for around 20 minutes. Begin checking them at 15 minutes. Store these cookies in an airtight container.

Make some doggy ice cream for those hot days of summer. After all, they want a refreshing treat just like people do. All you need for this is yogurt and some peanut butter. To aid in mixing, melt the peanut butter in the microwave first. Drop balls of this mixture onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper until they are frozen. You can then put them into a bag inside your freezer.

You'll know just what your pooch is eating when you make it yourself. You can also save money.
