Understanding The Denver Coffee Roasters

By Annabelle Holman

Beverage roasters are known to vary, price-wise, with their sizes rather than the quality of the products they have to offer, the prices range from a couple of hundreds to thousands. As it is the case with any other product, the price of the roaster does not reflect any relation to the quality of service that the roaster has to offer. The variety of the Denver coffee roasters ranges from the simple and basic top model design stove types up to the high end automatic designs.

Just below the range is the basic top models, they are composed a saucepan which has a tight lid that has a special handle that allows the beans to pass through the crank as the process move along. Constantly stirring the beans helps in maintain a constant temperature circulation and also helps the beans from roasting at the bottom of the roaster.

The high end automated roaster is designed to be easily operated, when the beans are measured and poured into the roaster, one has to wait for just a few minutes before checking the results. In built thermometers and rotating canisters are used to regulate the temperature and rotation while ensuring that the beans are not over heated or overcooked.

The most commonly used roaster designs is the air roaster, they work under the mechanism used by the popcorn makers where heated air is circulated in the mixture while the beans are rotated around by the rotating canister placed in the roaster. The roast is very uniform when produced.

One of the major considerations while purchasing a roaster is the ability to carry out circulation of air evenly over the beans as they roast, for quality coffee the beans should roast uniformly and evenly making it very essential for the roaster to deliver. Single burner roasters, which in most cases are placed at the bottom; fail to regulate the heat properly due to the air constriction making the roast to be uneven.

The drum roaster is considered to be any hybrid of the roaster designs due to the fact that it has a drum that rotates the rotation of the drum eliminates any uneven roast of the beans. The use of gravity to move the beans in a circular manner around the burner explains its superiority further. The machines are installed with see-through glass that helps in monitoring the process.

The see-through glass comes in very helpful in fine tuning and experimentation, when the machine faces a breakdown or any other difficulty it is quite easy to identify the problem and rectify it before it matures to a full-fledged mechanical problem. Pre-set amounts on dial are in place to assist in setting from dark to light, some have filters that help eradicate chaff that gets produced when the skins of the beans burst as the swell.

Roasters have evolved from being only used for professional purposes only to being incorporated in the home setting to make good quality coffee. The coffee makers are known to have large reservoirs to accommodate the amount to be processed.
