Examples Of Popular Mexican Food Danville VA

By Diane Roberts

The U.S. is often thought of as a big melting pot of different cultures. People who came here from different countries also brought with them recipes and foods that were popular and served often in their homelands. This fare soon became incorporated into the everyday life of Americans who often think nothing of ordering and making their favorite international dishes at home. When it comes to examples of Mexican food Danville VA locals can enjoy a wide variety of fare from this culture.

Many of the dishes that people order from restaurants or make at home have been Americanized. They are not truly authentic to Mexico. Still, they reflect the flavor and flair of cuisine from that particular country. As such, they many times are easy for Americans to make and enjoy at home or find in their favorite Tex Mex restaurant.

One of the most common dishes you could order in one of these establishments is a basic taco. The standard taco that is familiar to most Americans consists of a hard fried corn tortilla shell filled with everything from ground beef or chicken to tomatoes, lettuce, and salsa. Other ingredients include sour cream and guacamole. If you prefer to make tacos at home, you most often will find everything you need for this fare sold in your local grocery store.

One of the simplest dishes you could make is tacos. Tacos are so basic that it does not take a lot of skill to make them. You can find all of the ingredients you need for it in most mainstream grocery stores including big box retailers. The ingredients include ground beef or chopped up chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, and shredded cheese. You can also add sour cream and guacamole if you want.

Another favorite dish is enchiladas. Enchiladas are considered Tex Mex in that they are more Americanized than authentic to Mexico. Still, if made properly, they can contain the flavor and heat familiar in the fare from that country. Enchiladas can be packed with either chicken or beef.

The meat filling is put inside of a flour tortilla that is not baked or fried, at least at first. Once you put the meat filling in, you then fold the tortilla loosely, leaving open both ends rather than wrapping it like a burrito. Putting the fold of the enchilada face down in a baking dish, you then cover the entire dish with enchilada sauce as well as shredded cheese before baking it.

When it comes to desserts, you can choose from either flan or fried ice cream. Flan is like a pudding or custard that is covered with caramel sauce. It is generally served warm and can have raisins or dates in it. Fried ice cream is not really fried. Instead, it is rolled in sugar and served with whipped cream and caramel. It is a rich dessert that can be shared by several people.

These are a few examples of Mexican food that people in Virginia and elsewhere can make or buy. This cuisine is not entirely authentic to Mexico. However, it reflects much of the flavor and color found in food from that country. People who emigrated to the U. S. Brought with them these dishes that quickly became Americanized.
