Environmental Harms In Producing Moroccan Olive Oil

By Jeannie Chapman

pasta and pizza cannot be complete without olive. If somebody will ask you on where it came from, you might think of Italy or Greece. To inform you, hundreds of years ago, there is another country that holds such great possession and they had this ever since the beginning of their civilization. The Moroccan olive oil is one of the product of Morocco that made their economy improved and made them the second supplier of olives in the world market.

Many doctors are already convinced with the nutrients brought by the olives. This is because it contains monounsaturated which does not give any risk into the human body. This is very comparable to animal fat which stays inside the body and can be risky for its chances to cause cancer.

This is also one of the reason why the export demands are getting higher. Because of the health benefits the olives posses. Morocco has already a responsibility to the world market in which they have to supply the whole world with their product. But in the near future, the country can no more do such because of the risks they have took.

Since their civilization started, they have been planting olive trees until the time that the government decided to offer such to the word. And by supplying the even continents, the government is encouraging everyone to plant olive trees from their lawn or farmlands. And just to inform you that Morocco took the second place as the supplier in which greece was on it before.

However, this financial development has attached ecological problems which cannot be anymore healed unless the government decides to shut down the business. The pollution is getting worse there due to the wastes from olive processing plants which caused atmospheric damages such us ozone depletion and improper hazardous waste disposal.

Agriculture can also be responsible for this and not just the factories. Agriculture processes put the life of morocco in such a way that the soil can no more work and eventually will turn into a dessert when the time comes. If they will still continue planting olive trees without letting the soil get nutrients from other plants of if the soil is not treated well, this possibility will occur.

Because of this export, many people got jobs and have fed themselves, if this will not be continued many people will be affected. This is also the reason why the government cannot really take hold on shutting down the business until they cannot find another solution to substitute olives exporting.

The purpose of this article is to let everyone be aware of what is really the situation of the suppliers these days. Though there are still no evidences of the said risks, but the chances are getting there. And once the feared effect will reach its peak, it will really affect the world market.

Moroccan olive oil may not yet be considered as extinct today. But if the suppliers will continue to grow olives without any proper soil treatment and waste management, then is afraid that the supply will be in endangered. And so we can still help them by simply not wasting it.
