Italian Olive Oil: How To Differentiate

By Robert Sutter

When it comes to Italian olive oil, the idea of variety is not going to be too far behind. It's not hard to see why, since there are so many different products which stand to be purchased. Some of them may prove to be better than others but ultimately it is up to you to determine which of these will prove to be the best in the long term. You want to be able to assess the differences between these particular items and there is quite a bit to talk about.

When you are looking to purchase Italian olive oil, perhaps your eye is more set on the extra virgin variety. An article on the Wall Street Journal went into detail about this and it is clear that this is viewed one of the "purer" types of oil out there. Seeing as how it is made by first pressing the olive, it has a delicate flavor due to its lower amount of acidity. Many authorities, Bellucci Premium included, believe this to be the best possible choice in terms of oil.

Extra virgin oil, for those not in the know, is more delicate in terms of flavor, meaning that certain products work the best. For example, this is perhaps the best that can be put to use for the sake of dressing salads. If you want to prepare more demanding food in terms of taste, though, it is in your best interest to find oil that can work for, amongst other foods, meat and pasta. These are just a couple of points to consider when it comes to oil in general.

The fresher that the product in your possession is, the better off it is going to be in the long term. This is especially true for this type of oil, as there may not be a clear harvest date placed on the bottle. Instead, it is up to you to keep the expiration date in mind but, just as importantly, store your oil in the best spot possible in your most. It is in your best interest to place it in a darker, cooler place so that it will remain fresher, not to mention healthier, for much longer.

The information told is what will be able to help most when assessing the differences in Italian olive oil. There are quite a few products to take into account and I believe that many of them are going to prove to be useful, albeit for different reasons. No matter what, though, the various health benefits are going to have to be taken into account. Just make sure that you take good care of it before the expiration date arrives so that you will attain the best possible results.
