Discover The Joys Of Real Italian Sauce By Making Your Own

By Eula Nichols

When it comes to traditional Italian cooking there is no substitute for real Italian sauce. This traditional tomato sauce is used in most of the traditional dishes. It's simple to make and once you have perfected it you will never use store bought sauce again.

The key to a good tomato sauce is to start out with the best quality tomatoes you can find. They should be medium in size and very rich in color. Fresh tomatoes are the best choice to start with but if you are in a bind you can make canned tomatoes work as well. To prepare them simply peel the skin off, crush them into a fine pulp, add some olive oil, and set on the stove. You will need to start by bringing the mixture to a boil then reducing it to low heat.

There are several different spices that are important to get that authentic flavor. Basil and garlic should be added to the mixture while it is heating up, along with a touch of salt and pepper to enhance the flavors. Oregano and chilies are also commonly used spices but don't be afraid to get creative and experiment with your own favorites to create something that caters to your own tastes.

For a more authentic sauce do everything by hand, no electronics. This means crushing your tomatoes by hand, and cooking them over the stove top rather than cooking them in a croquet pot. There are tools that you can use to take all of the seeds out of the tomatoes and turn them into a pulp, but these are non electronic and have been used traditionally for years.

If you love the fresh flavors of tomato sauce and have some free time on you hands then why not make up a huge batch to store in jars for future use. The process involves heating the jars in order to sanitize them, then pouring the hot mixture in, and finally sealing the lids tightly and submerging them into ice cold water to make them air tight.

Once jarred they will make great gifts that you can give to your loved ones all year long. For any gift giving occasion that you can think of, your friends and family will love the thought and effort that you have put into it. They are not seasonal so you can give them away all year long.

You know everything that has gone into it so there are no surprise preservatives or chemicals. This means that you won't be able to store is as long as you would the store bought brands. You can make even more every time you run out though.

Real Italian sauce can be used in many different traditional dishes. Anything from pizza to pasta s made with it. Once you have perfected your own home blend you may never buy it from the store again.
