Keeping A Large Family Fed On A Small Budget

By Hedrick Lepsch

Staple foods are items that can be used cohesively with many other different fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, and overall ingredients to create meals. These are usually things that can be added to a number of different things and are very versatile.Having these items on hand can make meal times much simpler, because no matter which things you have on hand you can find a way to create something delicious to feed your family! Staple foods are different in various countries, but in the United States these include grains and potatoes; sometimes this can also include white rice.

These types of products are usually carbohydrates that are supplemented with nutrients and proteins. Thankfully, these substances also usually last for a long period of time, because they can be dried and stored. As long as they are kept free from contamination and liquid, you can keep them in storage containers in your pantry or cellar for a while before you will need to throw them away. Staples have been around almost as long as civilization; it is the way that many centuries of tribes have eating and filled their bellies.

When you are mentally ready to begin, arm yourself with three large plastic bags. Label one "donate," one "trash," and one labeled "repair." All of the items you want to keep will go back into your closet. Every item should wind up in one of these bags or back in the closet. Now, pull all your clothes out of the closet, place them on a flat surface like your bed, turn on some motivating music, and get to work.

If you buy in bulk, you can use plastic baggies or, better yet, vacuum packaging to preserve extra food. While planning, also try to take note of ways in which you can conserve left over items from one meal by using them again in another meal. Purchasing some items-rice, pasta, and meats-in bulk can decrease the amount of money you spend while at the grocery, as well as decrease the number of trips you make to the store. Those of you who have a hard time sticking to a list should allow your spouse or someone else to make runs to the store for you. As previously mentioned, store these bulk items in smaller amounts. Vacuum sealing foods helps preserve them and increase their shelf life.

Basics, like tailored jackets, straight skirts, lined trousers, and slim sweaters should fall into this category. If you absolutely love some things but are five pounds away from fitting into them, try putting them in a vacuum sealed bag for later. That way, they will stay preserved, and condensed for later use. No need going out and buying a whole new wardrobe when you lose some weight-simply preserve and store away what you have.

We can all take a lesson from the other nations of the world that use meat as only a small part of their diets. They are able to take their sustenance from rice and other plant materials. Another inexpensive food is grain. Beans are often very cheap and contain fiber which means they are very filling. These types of food items are also very nutritious. Don't underestimate the value of cheap food items.

While cold cereal is usually considered to be the standard breakfast meal, it is not the cheapest way to feed your family. Think about making large amounts of a single type of food, rather than buying each individual his favorite brand of cereal. Oatmeal and pancakes can be made in large quantities. These foods are also healthy and filling.

Any classic piece, such as a blazer, skirt, pants, or that little black dress, which needs a hem repaired, a button replaced, or a waist tightened or loosened, goes into the repair bag. Immediately take these pieces to the tailor to have them repaired-it is time to wear them again!Look over your keepers again, and see how they coordinate with one another. If one piece stands out and does not fit with anything else, donate it.

Chances are you will not wear it if it does not go with anything. Now is a perfect time to take inventory of your wardrobe. Are there any basic pieces you are in need of? Is there a color that you do not have, which would tie several things together?Write down any changes you would like to see. This process is to gain the ability to wake up in the morning, grab anything from your closet, and have it fit, look good, and make you feel good.
