How To Throw A Successful Family Reunion

By Richardo Manning

There are many reasons why you would want to get the neighborhood together for a block party. Maybe someone is moving back home, moving out, moving in, getting married, or graduating. Maybe it's a holiday tradition, and every year Joan from down the street decorates her special cookies to look like hearts, pumpkins, or trees, depending on what the holiday is.

Block parties bring the people of the neighborhood together, which is a good idea for many reasons. First, you get to know other people and make new friends. You may have a lot in common with them, but you will never know until you make the initiative under appropriate circumstances.

Proper planning takes time and coordination with other members of the family. You need to plan a date, and not just any date, a date that works for the majority of the people in the family. The truth is that you may not be able work around everyone's schedule, but with proper planning, you can be sure to at least get most of the people there. Another thing to think about is how to get people there. Your family may be pretty widespread and this may mean that some of the family needs to help pitch in with transportation or even with housing.

There are two crucial staples that anyone must have at their block party. The first is food and drinks. No one is going to come if there isn't any. A lot of people in the neighborhood would be willing to pitch in as long as everyone is doing it and therefore they do not have to bring much. It is much more comfortable for people to talk, converse, and get to know one another if they have a commonality, such as the food they are eating, or the nice weather they are having.

Another crucial element is entertainment for younger children. They have to be in attendance if they want to make friends on the street and their attention span is not going to be held by just food. They want to be doing something fun at all times. There are many different options, of course determined by the time of year. You could have a snowman making competition, or a snowball fight in the winter if you live somewhere like Utah. In the summer it could be a pool party, or a water gun fight.

One option that can be used all year round is involves less mess and fuss is renting inflatable bouncy houses. Not only are they fun but they are safe and clean when rented from proper facilities. The set-up is done entirely by the company the inflatable is rented from and does not take longer than 20 or 30 minutes at the most. There are a number of bounce houses to choose from, all of which are different sizes and include different activities. The larger the bounce house the more area space you will need for the inflatable. The inflatable must at all times have a boundary between it and any houses, cars, or major buildings.

Just as no block party is complete without food - every block party needs a bouncy house.
